The Toronto Public Library highlights Freedom to Read Week with a series of initiatives designed to celebrate intellectual freedom and combat censorship.
From February 24 to March 1, 2025, The Toronto Public Library is offering limited-edition library cards and tote bags featuring bold statements that support the right to read freely. These items are available at all 100 branches and serve to encourage Torontonians to engage with the library’s mission of promoting open access to diverse ideas and perspectives. Additionally, the library has curated a selection of books that have faced bans or challenges. The organization is inviting readers to explore thought-provoking titles that highlight the importance of intellectual freedom. The library is also hosting programs, including sold-out events featuring discussions on democracy and free thinking, which will be live-streamed for broader access.
