Google introduced a new setting that lets US users change the username portion of their Gmail account address, with the feature rolling out after a gradual launch announced in December. The change affects the bit before the @ in your Google Account email and is available via Personal info > Email > Google Account email, featuring a Change Google Account email action when enabled.
The tool preserves account data: previous emails remain in your inbox and your former Gmail name is retained as an alternate email address, allowing people to reach you at either address. Users can sign into Google services with both addresses and the username can be updated once every 12 months.
