Hybrid-electric aircraft testing is advancing as GE Aerospace demonstrates emerging propulsion technologies under real-world flight conditions. At the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, the company is showcasing a modified Saab 340B aircraft designed to demonstrate electrified powertrain capabilities alongside its Boeing 747-400 Flying Test Bed. GE Aerospace is also highlighting the CFM RISE program, which includes open-fan technology targeting more than 20% better fuel efficiency and improved durability compared with current engines. These testing platforms allow engineers to evaluate performance, reliability and safety before technologies progress toward commercial applications.

For aerospace companies, flight demonstrations can reduce development risks while providing airlines and manufacturers with tangible evidence of new propulsion capabilities.
