The Pill Guardian
Pill Guardian
According to the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (Sociedad Española de Geriatría y Gerontología) 50% of elderly living alone do not take their medication correctly, and while there are many apps and smart devices that can help, Pill Guardian was created to save lives by reducing the digital health divide in places where people have been left behind by progress. Pill Buardian operates without WiFi and without SIM cards, making the most of LoRaWAN technology and a pre-existing network of antennas and radio towers in rural areas as signal repeaters. As such, the device notifies caregivers in real-time if a patient has taken their medication—and it does so via a long-wave signal that consumes less data than an SMS.
Pill Guardian, designed to hold one week of treatment, exists to protect elderly health, decrease hospital admissions related to medication errors, and optimize public and private resources.
