CuteCircuit's SoundShirt is a pioneering wearable garment that fundamentally alters the auditory experience by converting sound waves into a rich tapestry of tactile sensations across the wearer's body. The major breakthrough of this innovation is that it adds a new physical dimension to listening.
CuteCircuit has embedded 28 micro-actuators directly into the fabric of the SoundShirt. These work in concert to translate various audio elements — such as the deep resonance of a bass drum, the soaring melody of violins, or the chaotic energy of a stadium crowd — into distinct, gentle vibrations that map to specific areas of the torso. The process begins when microphones or direct audio feeds capture the sound, which is then processed through proprietary software that analyzes frequency, amplitude, and rhythm before wirelessly transmitting the resulting haptic data to the SoundShirt.
A key attribute of the SoundShirt is its versatility, as it is designed to be comfortable for extended wear, breathable for active use, and, remarkably, washable without requiring the removal of its electronic components.
